75. The Kosovo Battle Memorial

The Kosovo Battle Memorial at Gazimestan, devoted to the martyred Serb knights, is the work of Aleksandar Deroko. It was erected on the same location where the Battle of Kosovo took place on St Vitus' day (Vidovdan), on 28th June 1389. It was constructed from many-coloured stones in the shape of a medieval tower. Verses praising the heroism and the death of the Serb knights were chiselled in bronze letters on the stone slabs and can be read in the interior of the monument. The top of the monument carries a bronze relief map with the description of the battle.
